eBay have recently announced that they are in the process of acquiring motors.co.uk. The acquisition includes a host of other sites in the motors.co.uk network including Topgear.com, Parkers.co.uk, Honest John, Autovillage and Raccars.co.uk, which reach a combined 5.4m readers per month.

All of these sites will become part of Gumtree UK, an eBay Classifieds business. Together Motors.co.uk, Gumtree Motors UK, and eBay Motors UK will offer more than 620,000 individual car listings, and reach 10 million unique cars buyers.

Motors.co.uk is one of the UK’s largest dealer-facing brands with over 350,000 used car listings on its platform. They have a robust suite of intuitive tools is tailored specifically to automotive, helping over 5,000 of the UK’s leading car dealers to sell their cars. They also help automotive sellers to utilize buyer data in marketing and pricing decisions and expand reach through their large syndication network. Combining the inventory, customer relationships and traffic available on Gumtree UK, eBay Motors UK and Motors.co.uk, along with Motors.co.uk’s cutting-edge tools and services, should help UK car dealers increase their leads and bring buyers more choice and better value.

“This acquisition would finally present a viable car selling and shopping alternative for car dealers and buyers,” said Matt Barham, general manager of Gumtree UK.

“By combining Motors.co.uk’s extensive inventory, dealer engagements, traffic, and cutting-edge tools and services with the considerable audience of in-market car buyers provided by eBay and Gumtree, this acquisition would give UK car dealers a significantly broader reach.”

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval but is currently expected to close during the first quarter of 2019.

With eBay motors becoming so much more important for vehicle sellers, Frooition has upgraded the Frooition eBay listing software for motors sellers. Classified adverts can now be posted through the Frooition software complete with design, dynamic links to categories and cross-promotion.
